Getting Started
This page covers what every web user needs first: creating an account and workspace, logging in, and finding your way around. The role-specific guides pick up from here.
Creating an Account
Section titled “Creating an Account”Anyone can create a new workspace from the Dharini landing page.
- Open the Dharini web platform and click Get Started. The Create your account dialog opens.
- Enter your First name, Last name and Organisation name.
- Check the Workspace name. It is filled in from your organisation name, and you can change it. Use your organisation, a client, or a programme name.
- Choose Email or Phone, enter it, and click Send OTP.
- Enter the 6-digit code you receive and click Verify & Create Workspace. Your workspace is created and you are signed in.
The person who creates a workspace is automatically added to it as its Workspace Admin. See Roles.
Logging In
Section titled “Logging In”- Click Sign in on the landing page.
- Choose Email or Phone, enter it, and click Send OTP.
- Enter the 6-digit code and click Verify & Login.
If you belong to more than one workspace, you are asked to Select a workspace after logging in. You can switch workspace later from the menu at the top of the sidebar. The same menu has a New Workspace option.
You can only log in if you were added to a workspace or project, or if you created a workspace yourself. If you see “You don’t belong to any workspace yet”, ask your administrator to invite you.
Accepting an Invitation
Section titled “Accepting an Invitation”Administrators add people by invitation. When you open an invitation link:
- Workspace invitation: a Welcome to your new workspace screen asks for your First name and Last name. Enter them and continue.
- Project invitation: the link accepts the invite and opens a project set-up checklist. See Setting Up a Project After an Invitation.
If the link says Invalid Token, it has expired or was already used. Ask the person who invited you to send a new one.
Finding Your Way Around
Section titled “Finding Your Way Around”After logging in, the sidebar has two groups. You only see the items your role allows.

Dharini has seven roles. Your role decides which menu items and actions you see.
| Role | What they do |
|---|---|
| Workspace Admin | Runs the whole workspace. Added automatically to anyone who signs up and creates a workspace. Creates projects and teams, invites people to the workspace and to projects, manages workspace members and settings, and manages sample types, species and data. Has access to everything inside the workspace. |
| Project Admin | Named as the admin of a project. Also called Project Viewer in the system. Follows the project’s teams, sites, collection plans, visits, samples and test results with read-only access, and can submit sequences for SNP Analysis. Does not create or edit sites, visits or samples. |
| Team Admin | Oversees a project and its teams. Follows the project’s teams, sites, collection plans, visits, samples and test results, tracks progress on the Monitor pages (Dashboard, Comparison, GeoLens), and submits sequences for SNP Analysis. |
| Collector Admin | Lead field collector. Does everything a Collector can, and also adds, edits and removes the members of their collector team. |
| Collector | Collects samples in the field using the mobile app. Creates and updates sites, visits and samples, and can view the project’s other data. |
| Lab Admin | Lead of a laboratory team. Does everything a Lab Member can, and also adds, edits and removes the members of their lab team. |
| Lab Member | Works in the laboratory using Lab Processing: receives samples, records pre-processing, extraction and testing, and updates test results. |
You assign Team Admin, Collector Admin, Collector, Lab Admin or Lab Member to each person when you add them to a project or team. You make someone the Project Admin by ticking Admin on their team when you create the project. Workspace Admin is given automatically when someone creates a workspace. See Managing Team Access.
