GeoLens
Geolens is a map-based module that helps project heads decide where and how to sample. It shows which surveillance sites are positive and lets you look at the environment around them, such as wetlands, poultry farms and bird activity, so you can plan better. Open it from Monitor → Geolens in the sidebar.
The Map
Section titled “The Map”The map shows your surveillance sites. Use the Filters button to narrow them by Project, State, District, Disease, Site, Sample Type, Result and Wetland. Click Reset to clear the filters.
Use the search box at the top to find a location by name.
Layers & Analysis
Section titled “Layers & Analysis”The sidebar (Layers & Analysis) controls what is drawn on the map. Use the arrow at its edge to collapse or open it, and Reset Map to return to the default view.
| Section | Options |
|---|---|
| Base Maps | OpenStreetMap, Satellite (Hybrid), Clean / Light Map, Topographic |
| Layers | Surveillance Sites |
| Analysis Tools | Buffer & Proximity |
| Reference Layers | Wetlands, Poultry Farms, Heatmap (Bird Density) |
| Observations | eBird Observations, shown as High, Medium and Low density |
Proximity Analysis
Section titled “Proximity Analysis”Turn on Buffer & Proximity, pick a location (a site, a point you clicked, or a searched place) and set the distance with the radius slider (in km). The map then shows the extra layers, such as wetlands and poultry farms, that fall within that radius.
Exploring Any Location
Section titled “Exploring Any Location”Click a point on the map, or search for a place, to open Location Details for it. It shows:
- Current weather: rain, dew point, humidity, wind, pressure, visibility and rainfall
- Bird observations: total birds and total species recorded
- Poultry farms nearby
- Nearest wetland and the shortest distance to it, with a link to Get Directions on Google Maps
Comparing Two Sites
Section titled “Comparing Two Sites”To decide between two places to sample, compare them side by side.
- Click Compare Sites at the top of the map, or click a location and choose Set as Site A or Set as Site B.
- Pick Site A and Site B. Map Click Assignment lets you choose whether your next click on the map sets Site A or Site B.
- Read the Site Comparison panel. For each site it shows the bird density, species count, total bird count, nearest wetland, nearby poultry farms and current weather.
- Click View Detailed Comparison Report to download a fuller report.
